the voice of a studio as expressed through transducers on three drums (rr0002)

  1. the voice of a studio as expressed through transducers on three drums (39:53)

anyone who’s been to my studio knows that the central air kicks on quite violently. anyone who’s been in my office knows that the taqueria on the opposite side of the wall has some machinery, probably a freezer, that produces a low frequency oscillation loud enough to shake the snare drums stored in my office.

in this piece i recorded the extant drones in my office, fed the drones into three drums using transducers, then edited everything together. the resultant freezer spectra are brought out with eq.

for my 30th birthday

i got the electroshock blues (rr0001)

  1. feeling, scared today (01:42)
  2. pink pill (08:03)
  3. a hundred times (i) (12:00)
  4. a hundred times (ii) (08:04)
  5. la la (03:48)

in high school, shortly after my mom’s sudden death, i found and listened to “Electro-Shock Blues” by the Eels, written in response to frontman Mark Oliver Everett’s sister’s death and mother’s terminal cancer. since that time, this album has left an indelible mark on my musical memory, and much of the of the musical content of the title track has seeped into my own work.
